Thanksgiving Turkey Burner

Turkey Burner: A Thanksgiving Tradition

Thanksgiving morning used to mean one thing for me: a 5K run. Back when I was younger and my knee was fully functional, I loved the ritual of starting the holiday with a burst of energy, crisp air, and a finish-line feeling before settling in for the big meal.

These days, my knee and I have renegotiated our relationship. The 5K may be retired, but the tradition of moving before the feast is still very much alive. And that’s exactly why I created the SeniorScapes Turkey Burner Workout—a fun, accessible, joint-friendly way for older adults (and anyone, really) to start Thanksgiving feeling strong, energized, and grateful for the body they have today.

This 30–40 minute circuit can be done at any SeniorScapes park or local outdoor fitness space. It includes simple strength moves like leg press, shoulder press, step-ups, and rows—plus light jogging or brisk walking around the sidewalk loops between each exercise. There’s even a little core work on the putting green to round out the session. It’s designed to be safe, adaptable, and empowering for every fitness level.

Because here’s what I know: starting the morning with movement sets the tone for the entire day. It boosts your mood, sharpens your focus, and makes the Thanksgiving meal feel even more rewarding, not a guilt-ridden indulgence that leaves you feeling stuffed and sluggish. You’re celebrating your body, your health, and your ability to keep showing up for yourself—no matter your age, your joints, or your personal history with turkey trots.

So download and print this SeniorScapes Turkey Burner and take it to the park this week—or anytime you want a quick, feel-good workout and a dose of fresh air. Bring a friend, a grandchild, or your whole family. Or go solo and treat it like your own personal tradition.

Move a little. Laugh a lot. And enjoy every bite later.

Happy Thanksgiving from SeniorScapes!
